Massage Therapy For Sciatica Pain
Should the next step be an epidural for bulging disk?
Ive got a bulging disk… had an mri done and shows L4 bulging onto my nerves.. my back is in agony and i have sciatica in my right leg all the way down to the ankle.. im in alot of pain and cant work, socialize, walk anywhere for longer than 5 mins, ive had this for 2 months and the pain keeps getting worse and worse. Im basically bed ridden apart from getting up to do the odd bit of physical therapy once an hour.
Im 20 so i dont think they will operate but i am waiting to see a neurosurgeon, ive been on every pain killer they can give to me and nothing works.
Ive also had massages done to get the blood flowing around the disk.
My physio said today that i should ask my Doctor for an epidural.. do you think this would help?
It’s often helpful for cases where attempting to do the exercises only worsens the condition. I’ve seen many who I thought were going to have surgery for sure, but did much better after a course of epidurals…they still needed to do the PT, but it become much more effective.
Bit of PT once an hour? Sounds like you might be seeing someone who is knowlegable on the mechanical diagnosis and therapy approach (aka “McKenzie” method)…if so, you are in good hands, but if your physio is not certified and your progress ceases, I would recommend seeing someone who is before committing to surgery ( http://www.mckenziemdt.org )
