Deep Tissue Massage Therapy

PRRT, have you used it?
I had a physical therapist do it on me. It was quite amazing. It wasn’t as rough as chiropractic and not as painful as deep tissue massage.
It stands for Primal Reflex Release Technique.
I would like to learn this. I am trying to figure out if it would be best to go into physical therapy, Massage Therapy, energy healing or what.
My own pain issues make it difficult to do something that is going to require a lot of physical lifting or manipulating of another person.
If you have done this or had this done on you what have been your experiences?
As far as I can see the PRRT is only open to physical therapists, MDs, and chiropractors, although their official website isn’t clear on this.
I hadn’t heard of it before this post, and I’m a little wary when I go to their website. Their claim has some basis, that pain results in certain reflexes, but this is already well documented and not a new finding. Inhibition of the muscular system is a well known reflex in the face of pain…called neural inhibition.
Yet, they do not have any claim to have any research to back up their SPECIFIC techniques nor the reliability, validity, nor do they compare it with other treatment techniques. Therefore, if you became a PT, it would be something you would not learn at the entry level and that you would persue later on. However, in the course of physical therapy education ,you will learn many things and make many decisions about the type of treatments you want to persue and it will require you to carefully evaluate the literature (of which it appears there is none on this) and decide if it’s worth investing your money.
I am not saying it does not work, I’m saying if it is here to stay, it better start documenting it’s efficiacy, relability and validity…or else it simply becomes “another weekend course at the Holiday Inn” that seeks only to collect your money and not prove itself as a viable treatment approach.
After reviewing one of their treatment sessions online, I’d say “what a load of crap”, but again the basis of how they are reversing neural inhibition can really be quite simple and often done by the patient without them plucking at your face or tapping you with a hammer. It can really be done a lot simpler and with more evidence to it when done with different methods as opposed to this one. When there’s only a handful of pracitioners certified to do it across the US, we might have to look at it as the next fad until it really establishes it’s validity. Yet, they have to start somewhere, I suppose. At this time, I wouldn’t waste my money on it to learn it.
